My 2018 Christmas Angel project began in June 2018. I planned this project to launch an annual collection for my customers/collectors/friends/Angel lovers.
My goal: 12 Angels by September. I started sketching and came up with a mantle design measuring 10” x 20” x 7/8” on canvas- with a crackled, antiqued, varnished waxed finish.
The Christmas theme presented subtlety – pieces could easily be displayed year round. Collection received high reviews and shelves empty by October!
Next step?
My favorite part…selecting background/scrapbook papers! Clearly this year’s favorite are paper reminiscent of a vintage ornament boxes one displaying a collection of vintage Christmas bells
In case you don’t have your calculator nearby, with 15 Christmas Angel Backgrounds, I cut 480 2 1/2″ squares! I had a ball- I love scrapbook paper almost as much as I love cookies ❤️
Naming my Angels is always special. Initials represent special thoughts- 2 Angels answer to “S.T.” and “J.B.”
I see you nodding your heads understanding Currier and Ives, Mistle, Merry, Cane and Macy (Miracle on 34th Street). Rondeau and McReynolds are important people in my life- Emmanuella sounds like an Angel’s name,
Virginia is the little girl’s name from Miracle on 34th Street and Rachel is Mary’s mother’s name.
Ginger Starr answered to Star (r) I extra additional r – sounded classy. As I painted the last few strokes on Starr’s face, I could not miss the strong resemblance Starr has to Ginger on Gilligan’s Island ~ hence …- Ginger Starr
Lastly- the first Angel I named Persey for perseverance (had a few do-overs)- then, promptly forgot I named her. I sang James Taylor (You’ve Got A Friend.) non-stop throughout her creation- so I named her Taylor… but wait- she already had a name – so I put them together as Southerners are known to do … Persey Taylor or Petey.
Petey a good friend of Sammy’s – a Boston Terrier who splits his time between Texas and Wyoming, *Petey owned by dear friend and USA Best Selling Author Pamela Fagan Hutchins.
Oh and just so you have the inside track …*
ST = scotch tape . JB= Jingle Bells 😉
Macy hangs in my painting room to watch over and remind me sometimes good things come out of the roughest patch of the road.
